Pesticide residue

Pesticide residue refers to the general term of prototype, poisonous metabolin, degradations and impurities included in living body, byproducts and environment after pesticide is used. Such a problem had already attracted the attention of FAO and WHO early in 1960s.So far, researches and relevant standards concerning pesticide residue are very few and National Pharmacopoeia 2000 edition only records the testing methods of organic chloride pesticide and limited standards of some types of pesticide residue in few TCM products.

The common types of pesticide residues in TCM products are two organic chlorides, organophosphorus types. The first type belongs to nerve system poison and solid organ poison. It has long half-life period and can easily accumulate inside human body. The second type may lead to reduction of cholinesterase inside human body and tardive nerve disease, or even cancer.
